Experience The Cathedral boasts over seven centuries of history. Begun in 1386 and completed only in the 20th century, it is an unmissable stop on your Milanese stay: its imposing presence and pure beauty are impossible to ignore.
Meet in front of the Duomo and take the lift to reach a breathtaking panoramic terrace of approximately 8,000 square metres. There you can admire 135 spiers, pinnacles, flying buttresses and many statues. It's almost impossible to believe, but the Duomo has around 3,400 statues! Designed and sculpted over the centuries, they portray a wide range of biblical and historical figures, gargoyles, animals, small monsters, dragons, faces and baffling silhouettes.
And if you think that the Cathedral is now complete, you are wrong! New statues have been sculpted and installed in recent times to represent the city's contemporary history. In the second part of the tour you will also enter the cathedral, which is an absolute masterpiece, stunning architecture that took centuries to complete. In 1386, the first Duke of Milan, Gian Galeazzo Visconti, commissioned the construction of this cathedral on the ruins of two previous churches, Santa Maria Maggiore and Santa Tecla.
From its inception, the cathedral was dedicated to Santa Maria Nascente and conceived as Gothic architecture. You will explore a place full of history, art and faith, admiring fantastic stained glass windows, exceptional works of art, revered relics and unparalleled architectural solutions.
Today the Duomo is the largest church in Italy and the sixth largest church in the world. This tour is like no other. It will make you experience the Duomo deeply, taking you to the top and inside the cathedral.
